"The Double Chooz Far Detector: almost ready"

Abstract :
Further fundamental research in the neutrino oscillations field can be accomplished using reactor neutrinos. The smallest and still unmeasured theta13 mixing angle of the PMNS leptonic mixing matrix can be probed using a new generation of reactor neutrino experiments, such as the Double Chooz experiment. Such experiments aim to achieve unprecedented high statistics and low systematic uncertainties (<1% level).
Probing theta13 via reactor neutrinos is a complementary to the effort being carried out by neutrino beam experiments. In my talk, I will briefly introduce the physics behind the theta13 mixing angle and illustrate how the Double Chooz collaboration intends to measure it. The core of my talk though will devoted to showing the latest results on the far detector commissioning (task for which that I am responsible) expected to be ready by the end of 2010.

"Probing Early Universe Particle Physics with Neutrons at the Institut Laue-Langevin"

Abstract :
Low energy experiments at the "precision frontier" provide a powerful probe of early universe. A brief introduction to the Institute Laue-Langevin (ILL) in Grenoble, France, which is a world leader in academic research with neutrons will be given. The scope of fundamental physics studies with neutrons is outlined. The main instruments provided for such studies are described and some past and current flagship experiments with ultra-cold neutrons (UCN) in this field (lifetime, electric dipole moment, quantum states) are highlighted. A brief outlook on future projects is given.
