To: pat06ws@icepp.s.u-tokyo.ac.jp Subject: [pat06ws] Bulletin No.3 for PAT WS in Japan From: Junichi Tanaka Date: Wed, 26 Apr 2006 05:36:38 +0900 (JST) Dear Participates of PAT WS 2006 in Japan, this is the announcement about preparation of your portable PC in order to connect it to the network and/or to join the tutorials at the workshop. [People, who connect PCs to our network] - Wireless LAN is prepared. We will provide a WEP key at the reception desk on the day of this WS. - Power plug in Japan For example, see http://kropla.com/electric2.htm, TypeA is OK. The voltage is 100V. [People, who have/give tutorials in this WS] - SSH client and X server are required. SSH client is required to login our tutorial PCs, which have your working directory and the ATHENA environment. X server is also required to display histograms and so on. For Linux and Mac OS X users, they (SSH and X) are available in most cases. But Windows users must prepare them. Please see the next URL for beginners: http://www.icepp.s.u-tokyo.ac.jp/atlas/pat06/preparation/ - How to login to the tutorial PCs. Please send your login-name, shell and public ssh-key to us (e-mail=pat06.support@icepp.s.u-tokyo.ac.jp) before your arrival. Linux and Mac OS X users can use the ssh-keygen command to general 2 ssh-keys and send the only "public" ssh-key to us. (Do not send your private ssh-key for the security reason.) For Windows users, since it is slightly complicated, we put a simple recipe for beginners of ssh-key at http://www.icepp.s.u-tokyo.ac.jp/atlas/pat06/preparation/ Please note that your private ssh-key must be in your portable PC in order to login to the tutorial PCs on the day. Please remind you that you need to send the following items to pat06.support@icepp.s.u-tokyo.ac.jp *** account at tutorial PCs *** 1. login name (<=8 characters) : 2. login shell : 3. public ssh-key (attached to e-mail) If you forget to give us your favorite login-name and shell, we will set a proper login-name and bash shell for you. - Grid certification A certain part of the tutorials requires your grid certificate to access data and so on. If you are interested in it, please check the following pages: LCG: http://lcg.web.cern.ch/LCG/users/registration/registration.html US : http://grid.racf.bnl.gov/siteAAA/VOservices/ NG : http://www.nordugrid.org/NorduGridVO/ (The procedure to get it is somewhat lengthy.) When you get it, please copy it (.globus/) to both the tutorial PCs and CERN/BNL (if you have an account). Those who don't have grid certificates will watch the demonstrations by the tutors. Don't hesitate to let us know if you have any question. There will not be time to do this on the day! Best Regards, PAT06 Local Organizing Group.
